Stare at your own risk: Maaco's Medusa Mustang

It appears that the theme of this year's SEMA show in Las Vegas will be "Gratuitous Tuning," the time honored art of adding plastic body kits, big wheels, lethal sound systems and origami doors to our favorite cars just for the hell of it. The latest car we've found is the Maaco Medusa Mustang, a pimped out pony car that left the fine line between good taste and garishness in the dust as fast as its 550-horsepower, supercharged engine could take it. If you look closely you'll notice that most of the Medusa's exterior mods come care of a Saleen S281 body kit. Saleen also contributes the brakes, seats and aforementioned roots supercharger. The gull-wing doors look like a pair of nachos being dipped in this most cheesiest of rides, and an air suspension farts away any hope this car could handle on its 20-inch Saleen rims. A couple of mods we do like include the Maaco-applied DuPont color-shifting ChromaLusion paint and custom installed in-car computer running Windows XP on a very large LCD screen in the center console. This question remains, is the Medusa Mustang more gratuitous than the Outrageous C6? Probably not, it would need an Ostrich leather interior to pull that off.

Whyd they put a shifter from a pickup truck in there? (things enormous!)
i wonder if its as slow as the factory boosted mustangs

wtf??? this is an awsome ride(exept for the doors). thir ride will be able to pull off low 12s and if you are a great driver high 11s.

For having 550 hp that thing is pretty slow.
I hate the doors on that aswell. Shit imo. Mustang's are not very good cars AT all. Yeah, good if you want to keep driving straight. They don't like to corner.

Windows XP is a fitting operating system for SEMA cars. Microsoft has been selling "bling'd" operating systems for decades.

haha, slow? do you know the saleen s281E's stats? they are close to the z06 stats. and it can handle too. this car weighs arround 3500lbs. it weight arround 300lbs more than a z and keeps up with it rather well. like that song goes, "shake them haters off"

the doors are my only problem with this mustang

My only gripe about the doors is it'd be a bitch to use it as a daily driver. How much room do you need to open 'em all the way? One asshole parks too close to you and you're screwed! The Delorean only needed 18 inches to open the doors.
I wouldn't turn down this vehicle. Granted, it'd need a new paintjob if Maaco did the work on this one. Hell, I do better work than Maaco!
BTW, those are NOT gullwing doors. Those are closer to McLaren doors.

Those aren't gull-wing doors, those are scissor doors...

I saw this car earlier this summer and it really does look pretty good, and certainly draws a crowd.

Its pretty funny to watch the haters and their typical usless posts.. I have met more then my share at car shows, they love to rag on my shelby stang but when it comes time to run they are nowhere to be found.. nevermind the fact most of them drive 10 year old civics....

Pretty slick. I like it...
#10 Jason...There is a local McDonalds that is usually packed on Friday nights with muscle cars. But whats amusing is the so called "tuner" crowd that shows up. They want a part of the fun but end up getting kicked out of the lot by the muscle car crowd. So they go next door to the bank parking lot where they are pretty much ignored. But the sad thing is they arent true tuner cars. 99% of the cars are just Neons or Civics with body kits tacked on. But the kids like to start shit so they try drag racing the muscle car guys and the kids lose miserably...its hilarious. We like to call them the Ricer Rejects. No one likes them and no one wants them. The guys with the true "ricer" cars rip on them. Its sad in a way but funny at the same time...

I want to know who he marketing nimrod is who named this vehicle after a mythical creature that is so ugly, that merely looking at it will turn you to stone.

Forget the garish color, performance, and overall corniness of the car.
I'm more disturbed by the fact MAACO did this. They can't even bring normal cars back the original condition. What makes them think they can do this? Maybe they don't care if they find overspray on the seats and the paint falls off in less than a year.

The outside doesn't look terrible with the doors closed, but that copper interior color is ugly. And yeah that shifter is way too tall.

I am shocked that it took 8 posts for someone to comment on the fact that MAACO painted this. I wonder if the paint will come off in a car wash.

If I am the president, the first bill I would sign is to ban these damn "aftermarket" gullwing doors in all US public roads. Those are just plain stupid.

I don't see what the big deal is about these cars (the stang and the earlier vette). Basically, they look like the toys we used to play with when we were little. So if you have the time and means to made a working copy of your boyhood fantasies, why not?

I have seen the car in person, from top to bottom and underneath it would score high, not everything is in the flavor I would chose but everyone is different. A+ in effort and the paint is bitchin.
